    Tinman: A Showcase of San Bernardino

     

    After their final swim in the California  State University, San Bernardino pool, Tinman triathletes of all ages walk from the pool to a courtyard filled with fun activities. These are also open to non-athletes. Tinman takes place Sunday, June 27 on and near CSUSB.

    (SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.) The 24th Annual Tinman, taking place Sunday, June 27 at California State University, San will showcase much of what San Bernardino has to offer.

    “We want to make people aware of as many of San Bernardino’s resources as possible,” said Thom Salisbury, Tinman co-chair. “And it’s not too late to join us.     The Sunset Rotary Club of San Bernardino presents Tinman, now in its 24th year.

    The fun begins at 7 a.m., with the kickoff of the adults’ triathlon and 5K race. Athletes can begin checking in at 5:30 a.m. Children’s events begin at 9 a.m.

    While Tinman’s main event is a competitive triathlon, non-athletes will find plenty to enjoy as well.
    “Our children’s events are as cute as can be,” Salisbury said. “You don’t have to like sports to enjoy watching these kids giving their all.”

    Kids Triathletes run a quarter mile through a fun obstacle course, bike a mile and swim 25 yards. The Tiny Tots Tricycle Race is a quarter mile of pure (and cute) chaos!

    Helizone, a San Bernardino manufacturer of model radio-controlled helicopters and airplanes, will bring some of its aircraft. These will dazzle Tinman visitors with their ability to perform aerial stunts at elevations of several thousand feet, all with the touch of a remote control held by an on-ground operator.

    The Inland Empire Route 66ers minor league baseball team will send their mascot Bernie and their 66ers Spirit Girls Dance Team to Tinman. Bernie,will interact with children and other guests, and the dance team will perform.

    The classic Smokie the Bear, is coming down from the mountains with the National Forest Service. Stater Brothers will bring its antique delivery truck.

    Several local restaurants and stores will have food samples available. Among these are Clark’s Nutrition, offering a variety of healthy products, Qdoba, offering free chips and salsa, and Jamba Juice, offering smoothies.

    Fresh fruit and other refreshments will be given free to all of the sporting events’ participants. Kettle corn and lemonade will be available at a limited price for the general public. There will also be a face-painting booth for children.

    Admission and parking for Tinman are free.

    Registration for the sporting competitions is $25 for children’s events, $30 for 5K, $75 for triathletes and $90 for teams of two or three who wish to compete in the triathlon.

    All participants receive a commemorative medal and a “goody bag” from the sponsors.

    Discounts are available on the adult triathlon for disabled athletes, all students with school ID, California State University, San Bernardino staff with school ID, and members of the military with ID. These people can enter the triathlon for $45.

    Tinman Offers Something For Everyone

    Children show great enthusiasm as they begin the 2009 Tinman Kids’ Triathlon. Catch similar excitement at the 2010 Tinman, Sunday, June 27 at California State University, San Bernardino.

    Tinman draws hundreds of runners, bicyclers and swimmers each year with events for all ages. It’s taking place Sunday, June 27 at California State University, San Bernardino.


    (SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.) The 24th Annual Tinman, coming to California State University, San Bernardino on Sunday, June 27, offers something for everyone and showcases much of what San Bernardino has to offer.

    Tinman, which is presented by the Sunset Rotary Club, features triathletes, 5K runners and walkers, disabled athletes, teams, and a kid’s triathlon for ages 2-12 and an “action-packed” tricycle race for Tiny Tots (5 and under).

    “We have recently reduced the price of the 5K to just $25,” said Thom Salisbury, event co-chairman. “The 5K course is relatively flat, while the triathlon bike route takes you partially up the challenging grade into Devil’s Canyon. Triathletes (Kids too) are rewarded by a refreshing swim in the California State University San Bernardino pool.” Tinman also features beautiful medals and t-shirts, tons of refreshments and great prizes, terrific goody bags and a wide range of exhibitors from exotic birds to cool hobbies and more, plus ample free parking.

    “Our kids events are unbelievably entertaining for all, especially the kids,” Salisbury said. “Parents and other family members are more than welcome to escort their child through these events.”

    Experienced children ages 9 and up may compete along with the adults if they’re ready for the challenge.
    Entry fees before June 11 are $65 for adult and teen-age triathletes, $90 for teams, $25 for 5K participants, and $20 for children 12 and under participating in any of the events. After June 11, the triathlon entry fee is $75, the 5K entry fee is $30 and the children’s entry fee is $25.

    Discounts are available on the adult triathlon for disabled athletes, California State University, San Bernardino students and staff with school ID and members of the military with ID. These people can enter the triathlon for $35 before June 11, and for $45 after.

    The adult 5k and triathlon start together on the paved course that encircles the California State University, San Bernardino campus. The triathletes continue on bikes for a 9-mile trek through the foothills north of the campus, featuring the Devil’s Canyon.

    “This grueling grade is competitive for the seasoned athletes, yet tame enough for beginners, even first-timers,” Salisbury said.

    Finally, adult triathletes finish off with a 100-yard sprint in the university pool, followed by a short dash to the finish line amidst the many exhibitors and cheering onlookers.

    Teams of up to three athletes can compete in the triathlon, which is ideal if one wants to run, another ride bicycle and a third swim.

    Tinman Triathlon & 5K Run/Walk/Roll

    The 2008 Tin Man Triathlon and 5K Run/Walk/Roll will see hundreds of athletes compete at Cal State San Bernardino on June 22nd. All proceeds benefit the San Bernardino Sunset Rotary Club and its mission to improve lives both locally and internationally.

    (San Bernardino, Calif) The San Bernardino Sunset Rotary Club is involved in many local and international activities, as well as youth scholarship awards. Our main fundraising event is the 22nd Annual Tin Man Triathlon and 5K Run/Walk/Roll, held at Cal State University, San Bernardino on Sunday, June 22, 2008.

    “This year we’ve added the “Challenged Challenge” for athletes with disabilities to compete equally on the challenging core competitor’s course (with only minimal adjustments),” aid Thom Salisbury event chaiperson.

    “This is the pioneer “Tin Man” Triathlon and it is very well-respected in the triathlon community attracting hundreds of athletes and their families from all over Southern California,” Salisbury added.
